About the Project
Expectations
The main goal of the project was to create a comprehensive social platform for sneakerheads, which will not only be a catalog of collections, but, above all, a place for inspiration and exchange of experiences. The client expected a solution that would:
- Social media for the sneaker community – the app aims to be a place where users can share their collections, outfits and inspirations without having to fight the hashtags and algorithms of popular platforms.
- Collection and wishlist management – users need to be able to easily add their sneakers to a collection, keep track of their favorite models on a wishlist, and always have information about their collection at their fingertips.
- Up-to-date prices and discount alerts – the app is supposed to automatically download the latest sneaker prices from various sources and notify users of discounts on models they are interested in.
- Forums and 1:1 conversations – the community needs a space to discuss, ask questions and talk directly with other enthusiasts.
- Social feed with streetwear looks – users are to be able to quickly add their styles and search for inspiration not by hashtag, but by specific sneaker models.
- Payment and affiliate integrations – the ability to monetize through affiliate links and in-app payments.
- Availability on iOS and Android – the app must run smoothly on both major mobile platforms.
Challenges
-
Lack of dedicated social media – sneakers used Instagram, but content was lost in a sea of hashtags, algorithms did not favor the niche community, and looking for specific inspiration was frustrating.
-
Difficulty in managing the collection – enthusiasts had their sneakers scattered around their homes, closets, boxes and often forgot what exactly they owned. They didn’t have one place where they could see their entire collection and statistics.
-
Lack of up-to-date price information – keeping track of prices of favorite models required manually checking multiple e-commerce sites. Users were missing out on bargains on good deals because they didn’t know about discounts.
-
Problems with finding outfit inspiration – searching for styles with specific sneaker models was time-consuming and unintuitive. One had to wade through hashtags that were often mislabeled or outdated.
-
Fragmented community – enthusiasts were scattered across various platforms (Reddit, Facebook Groups, Instagram, Discord) and lacked a single place where they could meet, talk and share their passion.
Project Process
Solutions
-
Social media built for community – no algorithms fighting for attention, no distracting content. Just sneakers, streetwear and passionate people.
-
Everything in one place – from collection management to outfit inspiration to current prices and alerts. The user doesn’t have to jump between 10 apps.
-
Real-time data – prices are updated virtually live through scraping, so users always know how much their favorite models cost.
-
Collection and wishlist management with up-to-date statistics
We have created an intuitive system for adding sneakers to a collection, where users can easily catalog their shoes, see statistics on the value of the entire collection and track their favorite models on a wishlist. All with up-to-date pricing downloaded in real time. Users finally know what they have in their closet and how much it’s all worth. -
Price scraping and discount alerts
We have implemented an advanced system for scraping prices from various e-commerce sources in real time. The app automatically updates sneaker pricing and notifies users when models on their wishlist are discounted. Users no longer miss out on good deals because the app works for them 24/7. -
Forums and 1:1 conversations
We have created a space for discussion and exchange of experiences – a forum where the community can ask questions, share knowledge and talk about the latest drops. In addition, we have implemented a 1:1 chat system that allows users to talk directly – such as negotiating deals, exchanges or simply talking about passion. -
Payment and affiliate integrations
We’ve integrated the app with payment systems, which allows monetization through premium features and affiliate programs, so users can go directly to purchase the models they are interested in, and the app earns commissions. This creates a healthy business model for the startup. -
Cross-platform development in React Native
We built the app in React Native, which allowed us to simultaneously create iOS and Android versions while significantly optimizing development costs and time. The app runs smoothly on both platforms and provides a native user experience without performance compromises.
Effects
The implementation of the Kicks Check project yielded tangible results and demonstrated that a well-designed mobile app can quickly build an engaged community around a niche passion.
Thousands of downloads and active users – the app gained thousands of users shortly after launch, which shows that we hit a real need in the sneaker community.
Engaged community – users actively add collections, share outfits, talk in the forum and use the chat. The app has become a meeting place for sneakerheads.
Positive feedback and feedback – the community appreciated the unique functionalities, especially outfit search by sneaker model and discount alerts. Users emphasized that they finally have a dedicated tool instead of a chaotic Instagram.
Comprehensive solution from scratch – the project was fully implemented by our team – from concept, design, development, testing and community building support.
Advanced functionality beyond the standard – forum, 1:1 chat, price scraping, alerts, social feed, payment and affiliate integrations – all in one mobile app.
Scale-ready – The application is built to easily add new features and scale with a growing user base.
